Royal Life Saving Social Diploma
Changes have been made to the Royal Life Saving Society Diploma.
The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Diploma is one of the Society’s oldest and most prestigious awards, and recognises significant contributions by individuals or teams who have added to our collective knowledge in ways that can save lives and prevent drowning. The purpose of the award is to both acknowledge this work as well as to provide an opportunity to share learning and advancements in knowledge with our community.
Feedback received over recent years has supported the need to review the criteria and assessment of submissions to encourage and support both practice-based and theory-based or research contributions. With this in mind, we have made small changes to the Diploma criteria and now allow submissions at three levels. The Diploma Award recognises significant contributions by individuals or small teams and is given in recognition of a single piece of work conducted within the Commonwealth within the last 5 years. Typically, this award is for a theory or research-based contribution that follows a recognised scholarly writing format. Similarly, the Diploma (Applied) Award also recognises a single piece of work by individuals or small teams, but this award is typically for a practice-based contribution that consists of an applied project output. This could be in the form of a document, report, article, or presentation and should be accompanied by a reflective essay that shares the most important findings, recommendations or learning points from the work.
We are privileged to have individuals within the Commonwealth who consistently contribute to the scholarly advancement of drowning prevention and water safety at a high level. The Advanced Diploma has been introduced specifically to reward those individuals who have shown a sustained contribution over an extended period.
